You are welcome to incorporate the Oasis weight belts while doing the drilling portion of any of my classes.
If you want to purchase the weight belts I will be using, they come in one ADJUSTABLE hip size and one ADJUSTABLE wrist/ankle size and you put how ever muchweight in them that you desire by purchasing the individual weight pouches.
We cannot provide these to be borrowed for class because of the cleanliness issue. You really do want your own!
Wrist/Ankle weights belts: $15 Can hold up to 4lbs, but 1lb used as wrist, or 2lbs used on ankles is PLENTY at first
Hip Weight Belts: $30 10lbs is ideal for the average body size, spread out evenly throughout the belt
1lb Weight Bags: $3.00 each
I love thinking about the progession of learning Middle Eastern Dance in this way – it is brilliant!! Please read this: Belly Dance Mastery.
ABOUT ‘BELLY DANCE’: The solo interpretive dance that Americans popularly call “belly dance” is actually called raqs al sharqi in the Middle East. It means “Eastern dance.” It is one of the oldest documented dance forms and can be traced back to ancient Egypt. It has a long history as a dance done by professional entertainers at weddings and celebrations of all kinds, but it also has a long history as a social dance that everyone knows as soon as they are old enough to stand. It is simply the way everyone dances throughout many countries of the Middle East. While the elements of western dance include moving about the floor and leaping, raqs al sharqi features very little movement about the floor and an earthbound quality. The dancer interprets the music through movements of the torso, hips and arms.
I highly recommend putting a dance bag together so that you are always ready for anything the teacher might want to work on during any class you attend or any workshop you go to (The Oasis offers an Oasis Dance bag for $15.00.) A veil and a set of zills is a MUST, just in case the instructor wishes to work with these items in class without advance notice. Your dance bag should also contain useful items such as – a notebook and a few pens/pencils, zills, veil(s), dance shoes or slippers of some kind since you never know what the floor will be like where you are dancing, padded socks, dress in layers or keep a tee or sweat shirt in your bag so you can take off when you get warm or put on when you cool down, water, a few snack bars, a first aid kit including Advil & visine, feminine products, etc., a sewing kit w/Safety Pins – if you don’t need all of these things – some one else will, your business cards to give to people you meet.
!! PLEASE arrive 15 minutes prior to the start of class so that class can start on time !!
** Don’t miss the 2nd FRIDAY of each month Belly Dance "Hafla" Night where open belly dancing is the focus and you can try out all the great moves you are learning in class!
What to Wear
Class time clothing should be very comfortable like sweat, dance or yoga pants and a tee shirt. If you feel comfortable however, more body conscious clothing is O.K. too so that you can see your body movements more clearly than bulky, loose clothing allows. Shoes are not necessary – assess your own personal needs and any orthopedic issues you have. If you wear shoes, make them something like ballet slippers, Hermes sandals, etc. so that your feet have freedom of movement, unless you need special shoes for your own orthopedic requirements.. We try to limit street shoes on the dance floor as much as possible. If you want something to accent the hips that is fine but not necessary for Kira’s Belly Dance Fitness focused classes. A soft scarf tied around the hips is OK but NO COINS OR BEADS!! We will be on the floor often through class.
Please either bring a water bottle or money to purchase water in the vending machine. There is no drinking fountain. Staying hydrated through class is very important. Your warm up is vital so please come to class on time to properly warm up the body. Please pay attention to what your body tells you and do not do anything that actually hurts. There is a difference between feeling like you are working hard and being in PAIN.
Tuition and Refund Policy
Payment to attend class is due prior to participation in class and is non-refundable. All students need to stop at the registration table at the door upon entering the studio for class to your punch card marked and put your name on the sign in sheet.
Please arrive 15 minutes prior to the start time for class so that business can be conducted and class can start on time. We certainly understand circumstances interfering with getting to class timely, on occasion. Please do your best not to arrive late as it is disruptive to the teacher and other students and so that you don’t miss extremely necessary warm up time and technique instruction.
There will be a $25 fee for returned checks. It is at the teacher’s discretion not to accept a student that is a repeat offender of paying with non-receivable funds.
PRICING – Please read in FULL:
The Punch Card system simplfies the Oasis record keeping and allows students to not loose their paid classes when vacationing or illness stikes.
PUNCH CARD Small: 6 Classes for $54. A good deal if you are looking for a cheaper option or want to make only a small amount of time commitment. Consistency and frequency derives the greatest amount of progress in both fitness level and dance mastery.
PUNCH CARD Large: 12 classes for $102. This is the better deal if you want to attend both Mon/Wed night classes or come to any of Kira’s classes on a regular, long term basis. Having flexibility for class attendance is a great thing when necessary, but please recognize that when you do not see improvement in your fitness level or dance ability, random or infrequent attendance is a strong culprit!
ALL PUNCH CARDS EXPIRE 4 MONTHS AFTER DATE OF PURCHASE!!!!
Your CARD is like cash – do NOT loose it!! The Oasis does not keep records of the classes students purchase and attend. If you come to class without your card – you will pay the one-time, drop-in rate for that day, no excuses. The punch card enables students to have flexibility with class attendance.
The Oasis takes Credit Cards!
ONE-TIME DROP-IN: $10 per class. This option applies to those just wanting to try one class to see if you like it, out of town visitors or people interested in attending a special class with a **Guest Instructor.
**There are often Guest Instructors in the studio offering unique material or filling in for the regular teacher throughout the month to provide diversity to the students of the Oasis,(so they do not become little clones of any one particular dancer) or cover for a regular teacher who must be away from her class.
The Guest Instructor will cover material that is a unique forte’ of that particular teacher and gives the students of the Oasis the opportunity for different perspectives on the dance/moves/history, etc. Kira firmly believes that study with different teachers provides more extensive and accelerated growth in the mastery of this art form!
To understand this better read THIS: Guest Instructors – WHY?
