About the Instructors
Karen (aka: Isabella) began dance at the age of 3 when her mother enrolled her in a Creative Movement Class. She continued taking ballet and modern classes for 10 years, studying under the Dayton Ballet and the South Dayton School of Dance. Karen is self-taught in the art of pole with 6 years of personal experience. She has passed on her knowledge to many women since she began teaching in July of 2008. Karen also works as a Radiologic Technologist and competes at a national level in the National Physique Commitee.
Karen also has a Myspace called Vertical Virtuosa! Check it out: Vertical Virtuosa
Bethann (a.k.a. Josette) has participated in, and taught, various forms of exercise and physical fitness classes most of her adult life. She began pole by taking Karen’s classes at the Oasis in 2008 and continues to attend Karen’s advanced class. Bethann is married, has two sons, works in the design field and is very active with the BSA.
What to wear and bring to class
It is very important that of the day of your class you do not apply any lotions, creams, oils, etc to your hands or body. These transfer from your body to the pole making the pole slippery and dangerous.
Please be courteous of your own and the other students safety. While we clean the poles often during class, it is still necessary to come to class LOTION FREE!!!
The most ideal attire for pole dancing are short shorts (the shorter the better!) and a sports bra or tank top. Just comfortable clothing that does not restrict movement and allows full range of motion of your legs. Pole dancing requires bare skin of the arms and legs to make contact with the pole, and the more area you expose the better your “cling” factor. If you are uncomfortable in shorts, you may wear yoga pants or sweat pants, just pick a style that is loose and stretchy so that you can pull them up over your knees. It is strongly suggested that you bring shorts with you should you find that pants inhibit your training and you end up wanting to change. You will not need shoes for the beginner session, barefoot, thin house/athletic socks, ballet slippers something like that works well for the beginner class. Heels can be worn in the class levels ABOVE Beginner.
Please remove all rings, necklaces, bracelets, watches, and anklets before class. Jewelry scratches and damages the pole and your chances of developing blisters and calluses are increased. Also, refrain from wearing dangling earrings. They may get caught on something.
Class content – What’s it all about?
The pole dancing classes at Kira’s Oasis emphasize on three different aspects of this beautiful performing art: fitness, empowerment, and exotic movement.
Pole dancing, for fitness, is a popular and recognized form of aerobic and anaerobic exercise. Regular pole dancing can…
- tone your muscles, without “bulking up”, creating a lean and sleek you
- improve core strength, flexibility, and endurance
- provide a great cardio workout to increase metabolism and contribute to your weight loss program.
Even though the physical benefits to pole dancing are quite significant this is not just another hum-drum trip to the gym! You’ll be having so much fun that you won’t realize what a great workout you are getting!
Until the next day, perhaps!
Pole dancing, for empowerment, helps you feel GREAT about you. This class provides a non-competitive, accepting, and supportive environment where you can feel safe to learn or relearn a way of moving that’s been lost in the hustle and bustle of daily life. Pole dancing can be about performing for some, but first you must learn to dance for YOU! Building self-esteem and embracing femininity are key points stressed in this class.
Pole dancing, exotically, will teach you to claim your sensuality and expand upon it. Learn to present yourself in a powerfully sexual and artistic manner. There is no nudity or stripping permitted during the class. However, the techniques applied are just as, if not more, effective.
Who Can Take Pole Dancing Lessons?
Classes are open to women only, who are 18 years old and beyond. All sizes and builds are able to participate in beginner classes. The only exceptions are those who have chronic and/or debilitating muscular, skeletal, or joint pathologies. As with any exercise regimen, you are strongly urged to consult with your physician before beginning lessons. While this is incredibly fun and you will learn a variety of sexy movements in addition to the Pole work, the pole work itself is a STENUOUS activity that you will need to work up to being able to do. Please be patient with your body and just have fun!!
Will We Loose Weight?
We get asked daily if you can loose weight pole dancing. Like all weight loss programs diet and exercise are equally important. Pole dancing is a mixture of ballet, gymnastics and weight training. You will burn about 5 calories per minute of pole dancing.
To loose weight you need use more calories than you intake. First figure out how many calories you are eating in a day. Then cut that amount by 15 – 20%. Also add 20 to 60 minutes of exercise 3 days a week. Don’t forget your water and stress relief techniques.
We try to stay away from this question because we want all women to love who they are and not be so obsessive over body image. We are women however and no matter how much we deny we too look in the mirror and think – I need to lose some weight. Pole Dancing is an awesome, fun and sexy way toward making that happen.
Oasis Pole Students ONLY – Practice Time or Private/Semi Private Instruction
OASIS POLE STUDENTS ONLY: Need some practice time on the pole? Present or past students of Kira’s Oasis can rent the studio for $20 an hour (day-time rate), PER PERSON – up to 4 people for practicing on the pole. It is wise to double up practice time so that you can spot each other.
**Only the student(s) booking the time on the pole to practice can be in the studio, no additional guests or observers may
be present.
Please call the studio to arrange your time and coordinate it with the Oasis assistant’s schedule.

For Example: You have a party of 6 ladies for 1 hour. You pay the $35 rental use deposit to book the studio for your group.

a 1 hour party choose one or two dance styles…for 2 hour parties you can select up to three different styles.
DANCE STYLE CHOICES:
Pole Dancing: Become familiar with this very sensual and graceful dance form. Learn a routine, designed for those new to
the pole, that includes spins, transitions, and poses. Go ahead, give it a whirl!
Suggestions: Do not apply lotion or oil the day of the party, it makes the pole slippery and is hazardous to yourself
and others. Bring a pair of shorts (the shorter the better) or wear loose work-out pants that can be rolled up high on
your thigh. Footwear is completely up to you…barefoot, socks, or heels are all appropriate. Bring a camera!
You’ll definitely want some pictures of yourself in these gorgeous poses.
Floorwork: Exotic dance at its best. Learn how to move with sexy flair both vertically and horizontally.
Special attention is given to making “seamless” transitions from being upright, to the floor, and back up again.
Suggestions: Wear loose clothing that does not restrict movement. You can dance barefoot or in heels.
Chair: Classic and sophisticated. Learn an enticing and alluring routine that emphasizes posture, alignment, and
balance.
Suggestions: Wear loose clothing that does not restrict movement. You can dance barefoot or in heels.
Striptease: Satisfy your inner burlesque dancer. Learn to tastefully peel off the layers one by one.
Suggestions: Call 937-620-1678 or Email us at: info@kirasoasis.com to customize items of clothing and/or props for your group. There is no
nudity during the lesson. You will layer your removable garments over regular clothing.
Private POLE Lessons or “”Party”” at YOUR location
Typically we no longer offer this service. Since the portable pole is heavy and needs special location accomodations
it is something that needs to be decided on a per situation basis. Call the studio: (937) 620-1678
We hope this gives you some in-sight into planning your party! If you any more questions feel free to
Email the Oasis at: info@KirasOasis.com or call
